Background and Experience in Dispute Resolution

Kathleen Wareham is a full-time mediator and meeting facilitator. She mediates disputes, utilizing her thirty-year legal background in negligence; personal injury; civil rights; wrongful death; and probate, trust, guardianship and elder law matters.

Before becoming a full-time neutral, Kathleen was a partner in a Seattle law firm. Her civil litigation practice at MacDonald Hoague & Bayless included a broad range of personal injury; civil rights; and probate, trust, and guardianship cases. Kathleen is a member of the Washington Arbitration and Mediation Service (WAMS). Her law degree is from Columbia University (1986) (honored by faculty selection for Archie O. Dawson Award, resulting in mini-federal clerkship with Justice Thurgood Marshall.) She got her BA in philosophy, with honors, with a minor in economics, with honors, from the University of Washington (1983). Her mediation and facilitation training includes the Professional Mediation Skills Training Program at the University of Washington School of Law (2001), WAMS Advanced Mediation Training (2005), and Caregiver Mediation, Thurston County Dispute Resolution Center, program from University of Michigan School of Gerontology. She is a frequent speaker on a variety of dispute-resolution topics and is the author of the WSBA Deskbook Chapter "Washington Mediation Ethics" (2009).

Kathleen has been recognized by her peers as a SuperLawyer, by Seattle Magazine as one of the best lawyers in Seattle, by her Columbia Law professors for excellence in oral advocacy (the Archie O. Dawson Award), and by Glamour Magazine as a Top Ten College Woman (1981).  She serves as the President of the Board of Trustees of The Northwest School.

Kathleen is married and is the proud mother of two young adults. She maintains her ability to listen attentively and creatively, both at home and in her work, with regular yoga practice and walks with her family and friends. In her spare time, Kathleen reads, draws, paints, and cooks.
